About
A large wood wasp found in coniferous forests of Japan. Despite its fearsome appearance and large ovipositor, it cannot sting. Larvae develop inside tree trunks where they feed on wood with the help of symbiotic fungi.
Did You Know?
Female horntails inject symbiotic fungal spores along with their eggs into trees, and the fungus breaks down the wood so the larvae can digest it.
