One of the largest ant species in the world, with workers measuring up to 30 mm. They are glossy black with powerful mandibles and establish massive colonies in hollow trees and rotting logs.

Their colonies can contain over 7,000 workers and they follow regular trail systems that can extend over 100 meters through the forest.
